BMX RACING INFORMATION
Have you ever wondered what BMX racing is, but really didn't know where to get the information or who to ask?
Well here is some info for you.
First of all, No BMX racing is not trick riding or trick jumping, BMX racing is peddling your BMX bike as fast as you can across the BMX track while racing any where between 2 to 7 other racers.
Each racer is required to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and a full face helmet, Knee pads, gloves, chest protector and elbow pads are a good idea but are not required.
Size of bikes are up to 20" for 20 " class and 24" and over for cruiser class.
Bikes are required to have handle grips with plugs in the end.
Bikes can not have pegs, chain guards or reflectors.
Each racer will be placed in a certain class depending on; age and proficiency.
In the up to 20" class the proficiency starts out:
Rookie class:
This class is for all new members that have never raced before or have not received their 15 move up points to move on to the next class, it takes 2 racers to make a class.
Novice class:
The next class after Rookie you must receive 20 move up points to move up to the next class, it takes 3 racers to form a class.
Expert class:
This is the last class before you hit Elite Men, Elite Masters, Super-Ex class, these classes are the Pro classes and must not be entered before you are 16 years of age and have received your entire move up points, and it takes 3 racers in expert to make a class.
Girls class:
Girls have their own special class. The structure for girls is this; they can race in the rookie class (boys and girls), the girls class, or Elite womens class.
Girls may race in the boys class as long as you let the clerk or person at registration know when signing up.
Example:
Girls 5 years and under start out as a rookie (girls and boys). 5 years and up can also race in the girls class (girls only).
Girls turn Elite at 16 years of age.
It takes 2 girls to make a class.
24" and over class
This is the Cruiser class. Men, Women or kids may sign up for this class. It takes 2 racers to form a Cruiser class. If not enough riders sign up it may be combined; or an Open class may be created.
Combined classes happen when there are not enough racers in a certain group to make a class. Rookies will only race rookies unless there are not enough rookies then they will move up to novice, novices maybe combined with experts.
Girls only race girls unless they choose to race novice boys.
Each racer will have a 3 moto system.
(moto means three different races that you would race on one race day) your motos are not back to back so you would have a break in between your races.
Each moto is worth points. It depends on where you place in your moto's on what points you would recieve.
If you place high enough in your moto's then you would move on to a semi main (This only happens if there is over 8 racers)
Semi is a race where no points are given but if you place high enough you get to move on to your main.
Main is a race where you receive points and your award for your day of racing.......Each rider that makes it to their main will receive a trophy and points or just points; it all depends on what you had paid for during registration.
All of your points are reported to the NBL where they keep track of them and record your move up points.
There are local races, State, Regional and Nationals. You are not required to race at all of these races, you can just race local races if you choose to.
Local Rainout Policy: Any event that successfully completes 2 motos(rounds) constitutes a race. Riders will be pointed for the 2 rounds completed and trophied as such. If 2 rounds cannot be completed the races should be rescheduled.
